CALHOUN: Look Back at (Some of) 2013’s Most Interesting Stories
ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – It’s been a long year for me and my KMOX microphone — although I think one of us shows it more than the other.
(I count my stories down at the bottom of this page.)
Not long after the calendar flipped to 2013, I grabbed my mic and ran out the door to the Winter Warm-Up to gauge Cardinal Nation’s feelings on naming the new Mississippi River Bridge after the late ‘Stan the Man.’
After thawing from winter, my microphone caught heated parents’ unfiltered reactions to the school transfer scramble. It was my vehicle for taking St. Louisans to the heart of our local start-up scene and to revitalization in the city.
Day after day, I threw my KMOX microphone into my gear bag and raced out to breaking news… and countless contentious council meetings in Ellisville. The KMOX mic caught the Mayor’s Chief of Staff sneaking a hint about a certain “international retailer.” This microphone was my seatmate for three World Series games in the chill of October (which I had the thrill of covering for CBS News; here’s one report).
I’ve since switched out the weathered and worn (and, okay, beat-up and badly mistreated) microphone flag in the photo at the top of the page. One of my resolutions for the new year is to make it twelve months without having to do another swap…
And now, thanks to St. Louis-based LockerDome, here’s my “locker” of stories from 2013:
