Storm Dumps Up To 15 Inches of Snow in Illinois

MASCOUTAH, Ill. (AP) – Some areas of Illinois are digging out from more than foot of snow after the weekend’s winter storm.

The National Weather Service in St. Louis says 15 inches of snow was reported in Mascoutah in southwestern Illinois during Saturday and Sunday’s storm. Nearby Belleville, Glen Carbon and Wood River each got more than 14 inches.

In central Illinois, the agency’s Lincoln office says a foot of snow was recorded in Effingham and Neoga.

Meanwhile, O’Hare International Airport in Chicago got 11.7 inches. That’s the largest single snowfall since a blizzard in 2011.

Midway International Airport received 9.6 inches.

The snow is giving way to bitter temperatures that are expected to set record lows in some communities. Meanwhile, the wind was blowing snow, causing deep snow drifts.
