ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – What happens when people finally give up the idea of trying to survive outside? According to Bill Siedhoff, the City’s Director of Human Services they come inside at one of the city’s designated shelters.
Another 250 homeless sought shelter during the day Monday. Organizers at the city’s community center at 12th and Park had to look to the St. Louis County for help accommodating the overflow.
About a hundred homeless men, women and children were bussed to the Affton community center by Monday night.
“The police have been very helpful in terms of seeking out individuals who have been identified as being in certain places,” Siedhoff said. “I think it is literately saving lives.”
Siedhoff said St. Louis police who normally focus on crime helped bring the homeless in from the cold.
