ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - While Alex Rodriguez battles Major League Baseball, in St. Louis the legal battle between two former Cardinal sluggers continues.

The attorney for former Cardinal slugger Jack Clark filed a motion Monday to dismiss Albert Pujols’ defamation suit against Clark.

The motion was filed in St. Louis County Circuit Court.

Pujols sued Clark last year after Clark told a St. Louis radio audience that Pujols was a “juicer” and that a trainer told Clark he gave Pujols performance enhancing drugs.

Pujols sued for defamation. In the court motion Clark’s attorney Albert Watkins said the suit did not clarify the term “defamation” and added that the term juicer could have more than one meaning, for example, a heavy drinker or one who juices fruit.

Watkins also argues that true defamation must contain malice and “mere hurt feelings or words exposing one to ridicule are not defamatory.”
