Cameras, Tape Recorders To Be Allowed In More Ill. Courtrooms

PEORIA, Ill. (AP) – Cameras and tape recorders will be allowed in Peoria County courtrooms.

Officials with the Supreme Court of Illinois said Friday the county in the 10th Judicial Circuit will become the 36th in the state to allow the practice. Four other central Illinois counties in the circuit Marshall, Putnam, Stark and Tazewell will follow in the next two months bringing that number to 40.

Fourteen circuits participate in the trial program that was launched in January 2012.

Chief Judge Stephen Kouri says the decision to join the program came after months of meetings with judges and the media to make sure  “justice is not compromised in any way.”
