Highway Patrol Identifies Trucker Killed in I-55 Crash

STE. GENEVIEVE COUNTY, Mo. (KMOX) – A Jonesboro, Ill. trucker was killed when his rig overturned and burned on Interstate 55 in Ste. Genevieve County.

He’s identified as 47-year-old William Randolph.

Highway Patrol Trooper Juston Wheetley tells KMOX the crash happened late Thursday night near Bloomsdale, “The tractor-trailer was in the passing lane, which is really close to the median, and was overtaking a car when it drifted off the left side toward the median and struck a guardrail end.”

Wheetley says the tanker separated from the cab as they both overturned. The tanker landed in a creek…the tractor landed on the highway and both caught fire.

I-55 remained closed for some 9 hours as crews cleaned up the wreckage and MoDOT inspected a nearby bridge for possible damage.
