ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The latest numbers from the Bureau of Labor statistics show everyday expenses are getting more expensive.

From mid-2012 to mid-2013, the Bureau tracked the prices of every day goods like food, gas, rent and clothes.

Economist Linda Nickisch says in St. Louis, on average, prices rose.

“Food prices rose 3.1% from the second of 2012 to the second half of 2013,” says Nickisch. “So on average, we are seeing some things going up but we did see some items go down like apparel and motor fuel.”

She says compared to the rest of the Midwest, St. Louis mostly follows the same pattern except for food. In other states the average grocery bill went up about 1% but in St. Louis it went up 3%.
