Illinois Lawmaker Takes Aim At Capitol Food, Fitness Habits
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) An Illinois lawmaker has a plan to reduce the size of government, but he’s not talking about cutting taxes or shrinking the bureaucracy.
State Rep. Don Moffitt is forming a “fitness caucus” at the Capitol to encourage fellow lawmakers, lobbyists or anyone else who wants to shed some pounds and eat healthier.
The caucus will kick off with a weight-loss competition this month. It will run through this year’s legislative session.
Moffitt says they’ll have health programs, organized walking routes and work with other health-oriented groups.
Moffitt began an exercise routine two years ago when his doctor said he’d need to lose 10 pounds or take diabetes medication. Since then, the Republican from Gilson lost 100 pounds and walks five miles a day.
