ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Cheers and applause erupted from the seats of Chaifetz Arena, Sunday afternoon, as Machinists union members in St. Louis voted to approve a contract extension with Boeing.

Sources tell KMOX the measure passed with 1215 of the 1626 voting in favor (roughly 75%).

The contract covers about 2400 Boeing machinists in St. Louis.

The deal extends Boeing’s contract with machinists until July 24, 2022. Provisions include bonuses and early retirements to avoid layoffs. New hires would be placed in a 401K program instead of a pension plan.

“We welcome today’s ratification,” said Boeing St. Louis site executive Bill Schnettgoecke. “Not only does it better position us to compete, but it also ensures that our highly-skilled IAM-represented employees, those with us today and in the future, are appropriately compensated for their important work. Our collective commitment to providing customers with affordable, innovative solutions should be clear to everyone.”
