COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMOX) – Officials will examine all Mizzou university buildings after a veteran firefighter was killed Saturday.
He was helping evacuate students from an apartment complex after a second story walkway collapsed.
Fire officials say Lt. Bruce Britt became entrapped beneath rubble while responding to the collapse at University Village Apartments. He was pronounced dead at University Hospital.
The apartment complex is run by the university and houses students with children, married students, single grad students and students older than 21. It was built in 1956.
University officials say structural engineers had been brought in to examine the building and all other residence facilities owned by the university.
A memorial service is planned for Britt and will take place on Thursday at the Crossing Church in Columbia.
