St. Louis Taxi Cab Commission Approves Car-for-Hire App

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Need a cab? Soon you’ll be able to get one over your smart phone, following a vote by the St. Louis Taxi Cab Commission. The commission has agreed to let the New York-based Carmel Limousine operate its car-for-hire app in the St. Louis area.

Some cab companies at the meeting couldn’t believe it was approved so quickly with little discussion.

“It’s definitely going to hurt the cab company,” said Jamie Dolby of Harris Cab Company. “They have the license, they’ll eventually add their own cars, they’ll find drivers.”

Supporters say it will mean faster, more convenient service for users and bring fair-market competition to the cab business.
