Backes’ Sochi Dogs Already Claimed

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Blues Forward David Backes is back from the Olympics, but he didn’t come home empty-handed.  He rescued two young puppies from Sochi and they are now at Five Acres Animal Shelter in St. Charles.

If you are hoping to adopt the two dogs Backes rescued in Sochi, you might be out of luck. Kim Brown, the Executive Director of Five Acres Animal Shelter, says they are likely spoken for.

“What the Backes’ told me is that there were other players and family members that were in Sochi that also bonded with these two dogs so I think we may already have people interested in giving them homes,” says Brown.

Brown says Jake and Junior are very healthy, but still must be quarantined for 30 days. They will also be getting vaccinated, micro-chipped and neutered.

Brown reminds people while the Sochi duo are not available. Five Acres has many other dogs and cats in desperate need of a home.  To learn more about Backes’ program, check out Athletes For Animals.
