ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The bitterly cold winter may be taking a toll on your gas bill in March.

Laclede Gas rates will go up 9% next month, that’s about $5.50 for the average household.

Laclede spokeswoman Jenny Gobble says the utility simply passes along the cost of natural gas to customers with no mark-up so this is no wind-fall.

“The way that it works at Laclede when there’s a colder winter like this, Laclede Gas doesn’t make more money on it than it would be based on our rate design,” says Gobble.

Gobble also notes that the utility has most recently lowered this rate 6 times in-a-row.
