Humane Society Rescues 11 Starving Horses

LEBANON, Mo. (KMOX) – Veterinarians at the Humane Society of Missouri’s Longmeadow Ranch are preparing to welcome 11 horses that have been rescued from a property near Lebanon, Mo.

Society Animal Cruelty Task Force Director Mike Perkins tells KMOX the horses are in bad shape.

“They are very thin, and there was some concern expressed by the vets from the Department of Agriculture that these horses were losing weight consistently,” Perkins said.

Perkins said authorities have been working with the owner and the Laclede County Sheriff’s Department since last summer trying to improve the horses conditions, but to no avail.

The owner could now face criminal charges. Perkins hopes the horses can be put up for adoption in a few months.
