An action thriller and an inspirational religious movie were the unlikely pairing that battled for first place at the movies this weekend. “Non-Stop” starring Liam Neesen as an air marshal with an unusual in-flight emergency came in on top with $30 million in sales.
With Lent beginning this week, the release of “Son of God” was ideal timing. It came in second with a total of $26.56 million. The movie is being lauded for unflinching portrayal of the life of Jesus.
The surprise animated hit of early 2014, “The Lego Movie,” came in third at $21 million. In four weeks in has taken in over $209 million. In fourth place is “The Monuments Men” at $5 million.
Kevin Costner in “3 Days To Kill” came in fifth place scoring $4.9 million in its second week, which means it is basically underperforming at the box office. For the balance of the numbers for this weekend’s movie box office, please click on the link below.
