BOURBON, Mo. (KMOX) – A suspect is shot dead by a Bourbon police officer after a chase and crash.

The Highway Patrol says a Boubon Police officer spotted a black Cavalier that had fled earlier from a Sullivan Officer. When the suspect refused to stop again, the Bourbon officer chased him into Gasconade County and then back into Crawford County.

The Cavalier crashed at Route J and Fann Road and that’s where the Bourbon officer shot and killed the driver, 50-year-old Gary Wenzel of Bourbon. The officer was not hurt.

There’s no indication why Wenzel was chased in Sullivan and if he pulled a weapon on the officer.

The Highway Patrol has taken over the investigation.
