EDWARDSVILLE, Il. – The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspects in an overnight burglary. On March 7, at approximately 4:32 a.m., the police responded to a burglary in progress at Farm Fresh, 740 E. Airline Drive, East Alton, Illinois. An area resident, on her way to work, observed two subjects fleeing the business and called the sheriff’s office.
Deputies and Bethalto Police Officers responded and found the front glass door to the business busted out. The witness told deputies the two suspects fled the business southbound across E. Airline Drive. Surveillance video captured the burglary. One of the suspects busted out the glass door and entered the business, stealing multiple packs of cigarettes and cigars, while the second stood watch. The responding deputies and officers searched the area with the assistance of a canine unit but were unable to locate the suspects.
The business was previously burglarized early in the morning on November 21, 2013. In that incident, two suspects were captured on surveillance stealing cigarettes from the business. One suspect entered the business after busting the front glass door while the other stood watch outside. The suspect who entered the business stole several cartons of cigarettes before fleeing the business.
Investigators are not sure if the two incidents are connected. In both burglaries, the suspects wore hooded sweatshirts or hats, and had their faces covered. The witness and surveillance images indicate the suspects are thinly built, white males, possibly in their late teens or early 20’s. Investigators are not sure if the suspects had a vehicle parked nearby or if they fled to a home in the area.
