ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Over the weekend, about seven dogs were rescued from a Louisiana dog fighting ring and are now being cared for at Stray Rescue. Now, KMOX examines just how pervasive and wide-spread the problem is.
“All the illegal gambling that goes on. There’s a lot of money that changes hands at these dog fights especially if it’s a really organized dog fighting ring,” says Stray Rescue’s Jennie Foster. “There could be thousands of dollars bet at a time on each dog. And what happens to the losers is even worse.”
And that’s why the rings are so prevalent, but Foster says these dog fights also harbor other criminal elements.
“There’s such a correlation between the dog fighting – you’ll get illegal gambling, there’s always drug trafficking, find weapons,” she says.
