FLORISSANT, Mo. (KMOX) – Tuesday begins the termination hearing process for Ferguson-Florissant School Superintendent Dr. Art Mccoy. The two-day closed hearings will be presided over by a judge and witnesses will be called.
Since it is a personnel issue, the reason the school board placed Dr. Mccoy on leave with pay last November has never been revealed publicly. Although supporters of Dr. Mccoy, the Citizens for Education and Community Change says the district has spent nearly $50,000 in taxpayer money on legal fees investigating Mccoy which is something they call irresponsible. The board confirms it hired an outside attorney to conduct an independent and unbiased investigation.
KMOX has covered the district’s self-reporting of attendance increases made to the state in 2012. The figures were changed and no funds had to be returned. Following the hearings, the board will have 10 days to deliberate before voting on whether to reinstate Dr. McCoy or terminate him for cause.
