ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Drivers headed downtown on Friday should know about some big changes on the way.

Starting around 1PM, look for Memorial to be closed southbound from Chestnut to Market, and northbound from Walnut to Pine according to MoDOT area engineer Deanna Venker.

“Walnut will be your entrance into downtown from I-55 or Poplar Street Bridge,” says Venker.

The end game is the “Park Over the Highway” that will allow pedestrians access to the Arch Grounds without having to cross traffic lanes.

“So Walnut when it’s done will be a two-way street, before it was only a one-way so that’ll be a big change for downtown. But it will be a two-way street from about 8th Street which is by Ballpark Village all the way down to the Cathedral,” says Venker.

Another change is a new, wider Walnut Street bridge set to open Friday afternoon.
