CLAYTON, Mo. (KMOX) – Clayton’s City Manager Craig Owens announced the promotion of Assistant Chief Kevin R. Murphy to Chief of the Clayton Police Department effective today. He will succeed former Chief of Police Thomas Byrne.
”I am both humbled and gratified to accept the opportunity to lead the Clayton Police Department as its next Chief,” said Murphy. “I look to the future with great pride and anticipation, knowing the men and women of this department are among the finest law enforcement officers anywhere.”
Murphy has been with the Clayton Police Department for 36 years. He is a graduate of the 207th Session of the FBI National Academy and currently serves on the FBI National Academy Associates and Options for Justice Board. During Assistant Chief Murphy’s tenure, the department has consistently achieved CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies) accreditation and is currently one of only eight in Missouri and 131 nationally that qualify for CALEA’s Certificate of Advanced Accreditation.
Chief Murphy received his Master of Arts: Management from Webster University, Master of Science: Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Central Missouri and Bachelors of Science: Administration of Justice from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
