St. Louisan Going For Gold at Paralympic Games

SOCHI, Russia (AP/KMOX) — The United States will play host Russia for sled hockey gold at the Sochi Paralympics after beating Canada 3-0 on Thursday.

In Saturday’s final, the U.S. will be trying to avoid a repeat of a 2-1 loss to Russia in the preliminary round on Tuesday.

U.S. coach Jeff Sauer says “for what I’ve heard from my wife and a lot of people back home we’re getting more exposure than ever before in the United States … it’s great for hockey at all levels.”

The goalie for the U.S. team is St. Louis resident Steve Cash.

The Overland native was diagnosed with bone cancer in his right knee & underwent amputation surgery at age three.

Cash has been a member of the U.S. sled hockey team since 2005.
