Animation Animates the Box Office

The delightful new animated film product “Mr. Peabody and Sherman,” based on the very popular cartoons from the 1950s and 1960s on the animated series Rocky and His Friends and The Bullwinkle Show, took in the $21.2 million putting it on top of the box office this weekend. The film has great crossover appeal for kids and their parents, making it the number one movie for two weeks in a row and giving it a grand total of $63.2 million. It is expected to continue drawing well for several more weeks.

“300: Rise of An Empire” came in second with $19.1 million. For two weeks in exhibition it has sold $78.3 million.

The street racing epic, “Need for Speed” came in a disappointing third place its opening weekend with just $17.8 million.

Liam Neesen and Julianne  Moore starring in the high-flying terrorist movie, “Non Stop,” was a disappointing fourth place with only $10.6 million. Tyler Perry’s “The Single Mom’s Club” opened slow in fifth place with only $8.3 million. For the rest of the box office results from the weekend, click on the link below.
