Sports Correspondent Blog: Getting Down To Business
Well, it’s the first day of Spring, March Madness has officially begun (I’m proud to say I picked the Dayton upset) and I am sitting at the airport waiting to board my flight to Jupiter. I don’t think today could get any better, but the day is young and I’m an optimist!
I still cannot believe I won the Sports Correspondent contest and I’m on my way to Cardinals Spring Training! When I found out I won the contest, the folks at KMOX asked me on live radio who I was most looking forward to meeting and I think I surprised them when I responded with John Mozeliak.
Don’t get me wrong, I think it would be awesome to have the chance to meet guys like Matt Holliday, Adam Wainwright and Matt Carpenter, but for me, Cardinal baseball is so much more than the players.
Baseball is a business, and I am so interested in how one of most decorated, respected and successful organizations in the league works. Eleven World Championships don’t happen by chance or luck. This game is a science, it’s chemistry and John Mozeliak just gets it.
When Tom Ackerman sent me a text this morning to tell me I was going to be interviewing Mozeliak tomorrow I was even more excited about my trip. I know this is once in a lifetime opportunity and I plan on taking advantage of every second of it.
Listen to Ashley’s interview with John Mozeliak:
It is pretty exciting for a small town girl with big city dreams to do something like this. As a lifelong Cardinal fan I know this is something I will be telling my kids and grand kids about someday.
I am really looking forward to representing Cardinal Nation this weekend. I do have to say a great big THANK YOU to everyone who voted and my best friend, Kaci, for joining me on this trip! I am beyond grateful for the support of all my family and friends who helped make this a reality. Stay tuned for more reports from Jupiter and follow me on Twitter (@ashnicole83) for updates!
