Madison County Jail Lawsuit Dismissed

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KMOX) – A civil lawsuit alleging the use of excessive force at the Madison County Jail has been thrown out of court.

State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons says 46-year-old Robert Baker-El, Jr. claimed a sheriff’s deputy attacked him in September of 2011, while two other deputies watched.

Attorneys for the county told a judge that Baker-El lunged at the deputy during a lockdown where a sharp-pointed piece of plastic was found in his possession.

A federal judge’s ruling found no use of excessive force was proven.

Baker-El is serving a 29-year state prison sentence for aggravated robbery and possession of contraband in a jail.
