Parents Should Talk to Kids About Sex Trafficking

East St. Louis, Ill. (KMOX) – As one group prepares to remember victims of crime next week, they’re asking parents to step up.
“Talk to your kids about this.” About the risk that they could get lured into sex trafficking, says Kristen Eng, with Hoyleton Ministries and Coordinator of Rescue and Restore of Southwestern Illinois. Eng says kids from all walks of life have become victims. “When teens are starting to have trouble and they decide to run away and then they’re potentially recruited by a pimp — it’s not going to be that — it’s gonna be that you took action prior to that and you gave them fair warning.”
Eng says while many victims are girls, there are also boys sold into the sex trades.
In honor of victims of crime, Rescue and Restore and Hoyleton Ministries are sponsoring a resource fair, vigil and 5k glow run next Thursday and Friday at Our Lady of the Snows Shrine in Belleville.
