“Bennie” the Sea Lion Dies at the St. Louis Zoo

He was one of the stars of the St. Louis Zoo's Sea Lion Show

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Bennie the Sea Lion has died. He was one of the stars of the St. Louis Zoo’s Sea Lion Show. Bennie had been sick and was not performing the past two weeks.

A necropsy will be performed by the Zoo’s pathologist, but the exact cause of death may not be determined for several weeks.

Bennie was born at the Sea Lion Basin in 2002 and was part of the show for seven years. Zoo officials say he had a loving nature and happily kissed everyone.

The Sea Lion show, however, will go on as scheduled this weekend. Show times are 10:30 A.M., 1 P.M. and 3 P.M. Although general admission to the zoo is free, there is a four dollar charge for the show. Children under two get in free.
