Collinsville Bus Monitor Charged with Sex Crimes

COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (KMOX) – A bus monitor for the Collinsville School District has been charged with sex crimes against a child.

Thomas R. Hartsoe, 76, of Fairmont City, was charged Thursday in Madison County Circuit Court with aggravated criminal sexual abuse and sexual abuse of a child.

Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons points out that April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. He says this case could be used as an example for public discussion.

“We need to talk about this and make sure we’re having open discussions and that people remain aware and vigilant against this kind of behavior against the most vulnerable in our society,” he says.

Collinsville police said the department got a complaint from the district on April 4 of possible inappropriate contact between Hartsoe and a child.

Hartsoe is an employee of First Student Bus Co. He remains at large, and his bond is set at $200,000.
