2 Charged in Edwardsville Burglary
MADISON COUNTY, Ill. (KMOX) - A former Edwardsville, Ill., woman was charged today in Madison County Circuit Court with the felony charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance (Xanax) and burglary, according to Madison County Sheriff Robert J. Hertz.
The woman is identified as Juanita Jenelle Harvey, 31. She is homeless.
John Alan Gleason, 42, of Alton, Ill., was charged today in Madison County Circuit in regard to the same incident, with the felony charge of burglary.
On Wednesday, May 7, at approximately 4:53 a.m., deputies with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of suspicious activity at J and L Salvage, 6207 State Route 111, Edwardsville, Ill. The caller reported Gleason and Harvey had been to a residence on the property earlier in the morning to retrieve personal property. That property was retrieved, however, both Gleason and Harvey were later observed by a witness entering several outbuildings belonging to J and L Salvage. The residence and business are located on the same property. Deputies met with the complainant and later Harvey and Gleason, who were still on the scene. The complainant and deputies could not definitely determine that anything had been stolen. Harvey and Gleason were released pending further investigation.
On May 7, at approximately 11:51 a.m., deputies were called back to J and L Salvage after the owner determined property had in fact been stolen from the property. Investigation revealed scrap items had been removed from an out building and placed in a grassy area on the edge of J and L Salvage property where most of the stolen items were later removed by the suspects. Harvey and Gleason were identified as persons of interest based on the events which occurred earlier in the day.
Sheriff’s Deputies located Gleason and Harvey at a motel in Godfrey, Ill., on May 8. Probable cause was developed to arrest both individuals for Burglary. Evidence was recovered by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Investigative Division linking Harvey and Gleason to the burglary from J and L Salvage.
Harvey and Gleason were transported to the Madison County Jail where they were held pending a formal review of facts by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office.
During the booking process at the Madison County Jail, jail personnel discovered Harvey possessed several pills later verified as Xanax. She did not possess a prescription for the Xanax, which resulted in the charge of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance.
The warrants and criminal information were issued by the Honorable Judge Richard Tognarelli, who set bond at $20,000.00 for Harvey. Gleason’s bond was set at $20,000.00.
