BELLEVILLE, IL (KMOX) – A St. Clair County jury on Friday found a defendant not guilty in the cold case murder of a 16-year-old Centreville girl.

53-year-old Carlos Garrett had been charged with first degree murder in the 1989 fatal beating of Nicole Willis.

Garrett was already serving time for a drug conviction when he was charged in Willis’ murder. Authorities say his DNA matched DNA found under Willis’ fingernails.
