FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (AP) — A Fort Campbell-based soldier has been killed by enemy fire in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense announced Friday that 20-year-old Pfc. Matthew H. Walker, of Hillsboro, Missouri, died June 5 in Paktika province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when his unit was attacked by enemy fire.

Walker was assigned to 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and served as an infantryman.

Among Walker’s awards and decorations are the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with one bronze service star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.
