ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The change in venue for Fair St. Louis leaves some downtown businesses high and dry this holiday weekend—namely those on Laclede’s Landing.
They’re losing a large, built-in crowd with the Fair’s move to Forest Park, so the Landing Neighborhood Association has organized its own celebration, the Downtown Hoedown.
“We’re going to have all the family stuff going on, from bouncy houses to fireworks after dark, and great live music Saturday and Sunday,” he says.
Spokesman Mike Calvin says the Hoedown runs 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, and wraps up with a Car Show Sunday at 11 a.m.
Just yesterday, 2nd Street on the Landing re-opened following a month’s-long effort to re-set the cobblestones.
“We want to make sure people enjoy the river and the Arch still, and I think it’s just tradition to have fireworks and family fun down at the riverfront,” Calvin says.
