St. Louis Company Designs Wristband App to Manage Stress

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – A St. Louis company is working on a health application that will monitor your mental health from a wristband. It’s similar to the Fitbit technology of reading your heart rate from the pulse on your wrist.

The company is Data Dog, and its first app is called Mindset, an app to help you manage your stress. Data Dog CEO Elizabeth Russell says your stress level is monitored from a device on your wrist. She was wearing one during our interview.

“As we continued using the app I think that we both became more aware of when we were becoming stressed out,” Russell says. “And we’re able to create moments of awareness that has been really helpful.”

Mindset measures your stress level by factors like heart rate, location and time. When the app recognizes you have an increased stress level it sends an audio message to help calm you down. It also lets you talk through your stress in a journal.

Russell says it’s helpful because many don’t respond well to stress. Mindset helps you to manage stress through increased awareness and techniques to relax. The app is still in the testing phase.

You can hear a full interview with the creators of the Mindset app Sunday at noon, on KMOX.
