ST. LOUIS, MO (KMOX) – A gun rights group called the Oath Keepers have left Ferguson for now but they’re vowing to return with a large group of armed protesters. They say that they will be marching along side African American Oath Keepers and residents from Ferguson.
Oath Keepers’ Lou Andrews tells KMOX his group feels the need to return because Saint Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar is “ignoring the state law” on open carry.
“He (Belmar) makes excuses, I’m not a lawyer, that’s why I have lawyers, I’ll deal with it later,” says Andrews. “And we need to ask two serious questions here, one is, why is this man carrying a gun in the state of Missouri, if he doesn’t know our gun laws and two, why is he the police chief.”
Oath Keepers is not in Ferguson now, because Andrews says no business has asked them to provide security. Although Andrews will not provide a date for the planned Ferguson protest, he says there will be 50, if not more, armed African American men. He adds that they are both members of Oath Keepers and Ferguson residents.
