ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – This time every year a dog-meat eating festival is held in Yulin, China and many other countries around the world. This time, the Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation is spreading knowledge about the animal torturing event through the power of celebrities.

They released a video staring Matt Damon, Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga, Rooney Mara and others who ask everyone to stop treating dogs and cats this way. The video contains graphic clips of caged, handing, drowning, and beaten dogs and cats.

CBS News estimated 10 million to 20 million dogs are killed for their meat each year in China, and the Yulin that begins today is responsible for 10,000 of those.

The dogs are tortured in the belief that dying by torture makes their meat taste better.

One Chinese bureaucrat was interviewed by the Associated Press, and said they ramp up police around time of year to ‘deal with those who sell dogs.’ The official also said, ‘The so-called dog-meat eating festival has never been officially recognized by government or by any regulations or laws.’
