ST. LOUIS (KMOX) — St. Louis police say an officer was shot late Wednesday night while investigating a homicide in south city.

The shooting was reported shortly after 10:30 p.m. — the shooting that injured the officer happened about a half hour later.

Three shooting victims were located in the 3000 block of Miami. The officer sustained a minor graze wound to the leg after exchanging gunfire with a male suspect.

Dotson says the officer returned fire but didn’t hit the suspect, and he was arrested a short time later — but not before allegedly shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend, her current boyfriend, and critically injuring a third person in a crime scene that spanned a city block.

The homicide the officer was investigating stemmed from a dispute over a woman.

The officer is stable.
