Lincoln County Missouri Has More Sex Offenders than Most Counties

LINCOLN COUNTY, MO (KMOX) If you have children who play Pokemon Go, KMOX recently reported on the importance of knowing where your child is and avoiding unfamiliar areas.

But how much do you know about the area you live in?

Lincoln County, which is Missouri’s second largest growing county, has a large number of sex offenders.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Andy Binder says the drawing card is, affordable housing, and a rural area with limited access to day care centers and schools. Binder says the Lincoln County Sheriffs’ Bureau handles sex crimes against children. Those cases make up more than three-fourths of their case load.

Binder tells KMOX he’s never worked anywhere, where there has been such a high number of sex offenses and there’s really not one causal fact over another.

However, Binder notes Lincoln County has a very high prosecution rate and says they take the cases seriously, which is why more children come forward to report the crimes.

KMOX wanted to know if children are at a higher risk of an encounter with a sex offender in Lincoln County, especially with more children wondering around playing Pokémon Go. Binder says Lincoln County can be more dangerous, though he points out there have been no criminal complaints.

He strongly recommends checking your game playing route against the Missouri sex offender registry. Binder adds if you find that a sex offender is on a particular street, children should re-plan their routes.

This information doesn’t only apply to Lincoln County, it’s a good practice for any neighborhood or area where you might play Pokémon Go.
