Toddler Joyrides in Convenience Store Parking Lot

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – A Fairview Heights mother faces child endangerment charges after her toddler drove her car in a convenience store parking lot.

Police say Tykeia O’Dell left her two young children in the running car while she went inside Huck’s Convenience Store on Lincoln Highway Sunday night. The 2-year-old son freed himself from his car seat and put the car in reverse, slowly idling around the parking lot. O’Dell couldn’t get into the car because the doors automatically lock when the car is moving.

A passerby saw what was happening and moved his truck into the car’s path. The child eventually put the car in drive, hitting a police car that recently arrived. No one was injured except O’Dell, who got minor scratches from trying to open the door.
