Services Set For Fallen Granite City Soldier

The Granite City Police Department announced on its Facebook page, Sunday, it will escort the body of fallen Army Staff Sgt. Christopher Wilbur from MidAmerica St. Louis Airport to Irwin Chapel in Granite City, Monday morning.

The department is asking the public to line the streets before the procession comes through town, between 10:45 and 11 am.

The route through Granite City will go west on 162 to Northbound 111. It will then go west on Pontoon Road to Maryville Road.

Staff Sgt. Wilbur’s funeral is Wednesday.

GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KMOX) – Funeral arrangements are set for Christopher Wilbur, the 36-year-old U.S. Army staff sergeant from Granite City who died August 12th in Afghanistan.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 11 until 2 at Irwin Chapel on Maryville Road in Granite City. The funeral service, with military honors, will begin at two.

A 1998 Granite City High grad, Wilbur was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado. He served two tours of duty in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

He leaves behind a wife Lindsey, two children, and his parents.

The family suggests memorials be made to The Fisher House Foundation, which supports families of the fallen.
