BALLWIN, Mo. (KMOX) – It worked so well last month, so why not keep it going?
Katie Zaits-Fink says that is her philosophy concerning “Dine Out for Officer Mike Flamion,” a fundraiser for Ballwin police officer Mike Flamion by getting area restaurants to donate a portion of their sales.
Officer Flamion was shot and seriously wounded during a traffic stop on July 8th. Several restaurants participated in a fundraising event to stave off long-term medical costs for the now paralyzed officer.
Zaits-Fink raised $61,000 during last month’s one-night event, which she donated to the police department during Monday night’s Board of Aldermen meeting.
Now, starting next month, every second Monday will be a “Dine Out for Officer Mike Flamion” night, with more than 20 participating restaurants donating at least 10 percent of their proceeds.
Zaits-Fink says food and a good cause brings people together, helping the event to gain momentum. “We’re into Twin Oaks, Valley Park, Ellisville, Wildwood, Chesterfield, Creve Coeur – it’s really expanded,” she says.
A full list of restaurants that will donate at least 10 percent of their proceeds during the monthly events is available on the “Dine out for Ballwin Police Officer Mike Flamion” Facebook page.
