SPRINGFIELD, Il. (KMOX) – Illinois Treasurer Mike Frerichs says his office has secured $2.3 million owed to that state’s Sprint customers.
Frerichs says that money comes from unused rebate checks issued between 2003 and 2011.
“Rebates are often used to encourage individuals to purchase a product or service,” Frerichs says. “But too many times, however, that hook becomes a dizzying maze that seems to shield a payment rather than to fulfill a promise and we think we are fighting on behalf of consumers to make sure these companies fulfill their promises.”
Frerichs says about 32,000 customers have money waiting for them. Sprint customers who think they have money coming can check the treasurer’s I-CASH database online.
