The 16th Festival of Nations is this weekend in Tower Grove Park. It’s the annual event put on by the International Institute where people can come in, free of charge, and experience the food and culture of more than 40 countries from around the world.
Music and entertainment is included as well. Those in attendance are proud to celebrate what St. Louis has in our population.
“It really celebrates the many cultures and all that’s good about who we are as people and we can share the music and the food. It celebrates the best in us and not the worst,” Pat Dougherty said.
“(The countries) are actually ones that you can find in St. Louis,” Emma Donnely said. “I think that’s really cool that you can find these populations so it’s cool to see how cultural St. Louis actually is when a lot of times you may not realize how cultural it is.”
“People have this impression that St. Louis is very homogeneous (not diverse) and I think this is a chance to show it’s not as homogeneous as we think,” Paul Lynch said.
The Festival of Nations goes through Sunday in Tower Grove Park.
