Wash U Study Finds Excess Weight Linked to More Cancers

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – A new study from Washington University School of Medicine finds excess weight is linked to eight more cancer types.

Previous studies have shown limiting weight gain helps reduce the risk of cancers of the colon, esophagus, kidney, breast and uterus. Now, lead researcher Dr. Graham Colditz says his study expands that list to include stomach, liver, gall bladder, pancreas, ovary, meningioma, thyroid cancer and the blood cancer multiple myeloma.

Colditz says his best advice to limit your risk of these cancers is to stop gaining weight, then do what you can to lose a few pounds by exercise or diet.
