ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri is putting the final touches on a unique concept.
CEO Becky Hatter says the ANEW rooftop and test kitchen will open on the fourth floor of their office on North Grand Boulevard. Hatter explains the idea is to bring an entire community together to a single gathering place.
“We’ve long understood that the mission of this organization is to build trusting and enduring relationships. And we find no better place than the table,” she says.
Hatter adds ANEW is located in the same building where the old Woolworth department store once operated, which helped inspire the project’s name. “This building was once a place of segregated lunch counters and by us building a table and everyone being welcome, this building is ‘anew,'” she says.
The restaurant is expected to host up to 100 public and private events in its first year and is slated to host four resident chefs.
The first-floor test kitchen will be open weekdays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The $4.2 million project is being funded by a new market tax credit from the city of St. Louis augmented by private donations.
Earlier it was announced that the “ANEW” Rooftop and Test Kitchen would open in early October. Hatter says construction delays have pushed that date back but they still hope to be up and running some time this fall.
