ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Hillary Clinton’s pneumonia diagnosis has local health experts wanting to know more.
SLU Care infectious diseases specialist Dr. Nirav Patel at SSM Health SLU Hospital says he wants to know what kind of pneumonia she has and does it have anything to do with her recent coughing fits.
“It’s hard to know without more definitive medical information, but I suspect that the coughing could either be as been described by the campaign – related to allergies, or again, an initial upper respiratory virus infection which then progressed to a more severe bacteria pneumonia,” Patel says.
Patel says he is hardly surprised to find out a candidate has pneumonia. He says they are exposed to a lot of people and any one of them could be sick. So, pneumonia isn’t an unreasonable situation for candidates to be in.
He adds the general recovery time from pneumonia is between a couple of days up to one week. More serious pneumonia that requires hospitalization would take longer.
