Fans Boost Music Streaming to #SaveNelly from IRS

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The #SaveNelly campaign seems to be working as fans across the globe stream “Hot in Herre” and other Nelly tunes in an effort to help the St. Louis singer pay off his debt to the IRS.

In the past few days, the streaming of his songs on Spotify have increased about 200 percent. A Spotify spokesman tells the Washington Post “Hot in Herre” streams jumped by almost 329,000 plays from Wednesday to Thursday.

Every time a song is streamed, he receives a royalty.

There are no figures available from iTunes, iMusic or other streaming services, but Nelly won’t be seeing much of a windfall – yet.

According to number crunchers at Spin Magazine, he would need 287 million streams since artists make a fraction of a cent per stream.
