Barnes-Jewish Hospital Offering Free Flu Shots

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – It’s flu season again, but there are ways to stay healthy.

Washington University infectious disease expert Dr. Steve Lawrence at Barnes-Jewish Hospital says the best protection against the flu is to get the flu vaccine.

“Most people can expect to cut their chances of getting the flu in half or more, sometimes even by three-fourths, if they get the vaccine,” he says.

Last year the area saw moderate flu activity, but Lawrence says the number of flu cases starts to rise this time of year.

“We tend to see the first few cases around Halloween, usually peaks around the Super Bowl and usually tapers off and disappears around Easter,” Lawrence says.

For the 13th year in a row, Barnes-Jewish Hospital will offer free flu shots during the first week in October.
