ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – USA Today reports that Kmart will be closing 64 stores across the U.S., a person familiar with the matter said Monday.
No stores in Missouri are slated to close their doors, Business Insider reports. Illinois has six stores on the chopping block.
Its parent company, Sears Holdings, in April announced the closure of 68 Kmart stores and 10 Sears stores as it struggled to restore profitability.
The list included the Kmart location on St. Charles Rock Road in Bridgeton.
Liquidation sales will begin Sept. 22, and the stores will close their doors in mid-December, according to USA Today’s source, who did not want to be named because they were not allowed to say so publicly.
Kmart has about 870 stores today, down from about 1,300 in 2012, according to Business Insider.
