ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – After the reveal of Saint Louis University’s revamped Billiken mascot received almost immediate backlash, the school seems to be taking the complaints in stride.
The Billiken tweeted Wednesday evening that, “First days can be rough, but I know how things ‘ought to be.’ And I still feel lucky to be the Billiken.”
The short video shows the Billiken visibly upset by social media comments, but then quickly moving on to be cheered up by students around campus.
SLU’s president, Fred P. Pestello, made light of the criticism on Twitter:
For the time being, it looks like the new mascot is here to stay.
