ST. PETERS, Mo. (KMOX) – Police say the criminals who stole a Mustang from a St. Peters dealership late Thursday night were clocked speeding away at up to 140 miles an hour.
According to St. Peters police, while one suspect rode a motorcycle, the other used a box truck stolen from the I-70 Shoppers Fair at 4894 I-70 Service Road North, to smash through the gates to the CarMax at 4990 I-70 Service Road North.
One suspect took a Mustang and fled, followed by his accomplice on the motorcycle. They left the box truck still running.
Moments later, police got a report of the Mustang and motorcycle traveling eastbound on I-70 at 140 miles an hour. A highway patrol trooper tried to catch up. He found the Mustang at the bottom of the Bryan Road exit ramp, and the driver was gone.
St. Peters officers responding to that scene spotted the motorcycle going 130 miles an hour on I-70, in the construction zone near First Capitol Drive.
That motorcycle was eventually stopped in St. Ann. It’s driver, a 23-year-old St. Louis man, is in custody. He’s facing felony stealing of a motor vehicle and two property damage charges.
